Eagle Newspapers and Eagle Media Lab is seeking a dedicated and eager production artist with print design experience. The ideal candidate has daily experience in InDesign, strong organization skills, and is a problem-solver. They are very familiar with stylesheets, advanced InDesign techniques, keyboard shortcuts, and always look for ways to improve their design skills.

Eagle Media Lab is an entity of Eagle Newspapers which assists all other properties with production and graphic design needs. EML is the production “hub” for print advertisements, newspage and special section design, and print marketing materials.

Overview of the Production Artist position 
A production artist at Eagle is a professional who can perform design and production tasks related to long-format publishing and small job publishing. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual of high personal character and strong work ethic. Our production team is small, fast-paced, and friendly, which requires motivated, upbeat, and pleasant employees who have a desire to learn, grow, be a team player, and contribute to the company's goals.

  • Follow design style guides, templates and tutorials to produce assets related to publishing, including book layouts, newspapers, magazines, marketing materials, etc.
  • Design newspapers, print advertising, marketing materials, magazines, etc. from scratch.
  • Execute designs to meet client and consumer needs.
  • Make corrections to publications and projects as directed.
  • Clean up grayscale and color photos, including RAW formats.
  • Conduct pre-press activities including pre-flighting files and generating press-ready PDFs.
  • Work within Microsoft Office: Teams, Planner, Outlook, Excel, Word.
  • Use the design heavyweights (InDesign CC, Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC) on a Mac platform.
  • Assist editorial project manager and team members in a variety of tasks, as assigned.
  • Experience using a database is a plus.
  • Experience in newspapers is a plus.
  • Experience in imposition techniques is a plus.


  • Associate’s degree, trade school or equivalent work experience in print design field.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail, especially in following tutorials, templates, and instructions from superiors.
  • Expert in InDesign. The entire Adobe Creative Cloud suite of software is useful, but a production artist will spend almost all of their time in InDesign.
  • Strong familiarity with typography principles, font pairings, etc.
  • Familiarity with Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Familiarity with the InCopy – InDesign collaboration workflow.
  • Basic working understanding of image resolution, file formats, compression, etc.
  • Ability to tackle complex design projects as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.

  • $18.00/hour–$25.00/hour, depending on experience
